Sheffield Mayor Bryan Van Devender is recovering at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after suffering a brain aneurysm on Monday evening.
According to City Councilman Dr. Ethan Stokes, the aneurysm has now been successfully repaired.
"[Van Devender] will remain at Vanderbilt Hospital for the next two weeks as he recovers," Stokes wrote in a social media post. "To the citizens of Sheffield: we stand together, strong and unafraid. This city council is ready for the task, and I’m just the backup quarterback holding the line until our Five-Star returns."
"Your thoughts and prayers for Mayor Van Devender are greatly appreciated," he added.
Sheffield Fire chief Matt Mothershed said earlier this week that an emergency call was placed just after 10:20 p.m., with Van Devender, 55, being transported to Helen Keller Hospital shortly after. From Helen Keller, he was then medflighted to the medical center at Vanderbilt.
