Number 23 Alabama took advantage of Austin Peay’s mistakes to take a 6-2 win over the Governors on Tuesday.

The Crimson Tide grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a bases-loaded walk by Jason Torres and a sacrifice fly by Will Plattner.

Austin Peay responded with two runs of their own in the top of the third to knot the game up at 2-2.

The Crimson Tide grabbed a commanding lead in the fifth inning. A double from Brennan Holt and a throwing error by the Austin Peay right fielder put the first run of the inning across for Alabama. Later in the inning, a two-run double from Jason Torres capped the three-run inning for the Crimson Tide.

In the bottom of the eighth, Alabama strung together three singles, including Bryce Fowler’s RBI single that extended the Crimson Tide's lead to 6-2.

JT Blackwood got the start on the mound for the Crimson Tide, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, and striking out two. After Blackwood was pulled in the third inning, the Alabama bullpen combined for 6.1 innings of shutout ball to preserve the win. Connor Lehman grabbed his first win of the season in relief, holding the opponents hitless over 2.1 innings of work.

Jason Torress led the Alabama offense, going 1-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in. Bryce Fowler tallied a couple of hits while driving in one run for the Crimson Tide.

The Crimson Tide improves to 19-7 overall and remains 3-3 in the SEC on the season.

Alabama will host No. 5 Auburn in a weekend series March 27-29, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
