The chief trial attorney for the Madison County District Attorney's Office has announced a campaign for a local judgeship.
Longtime prosecutor and North Alabama resident Tim Douthit, who has overseen both felony prosecutions and trials while supervising more than two dozen lawyers since 2019, released a press statement shortly after joining the Madison County District Judge race.
“I have spent my career in the courtroom, handling the toughest cases and working to ensure justice is done for victims, families, and our community,” Douthit said. “As a district judge, I will bring that same commitment to fairness, preparation, and respect for the law to every case that comes before the court.”
Douthit began his legal career in private practice before entering public service as a prosecutor with the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office in 2011.
In 2016, Douthit returned to Huntsville to join the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, where he worked in the Crimes Against Children Unit. He also took on a violent crime caseload that included capital murder, rape, home invasion, and armed robbery.
Douthit is running for the seat formerly held by District Judge Ron Smith, who was appointed last week by Gov. Kay Ivey to serve as Madison County Circuit Judge in Alabama’s 23rd Judicial Circuit.
