The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham confirmed a tornado hit Jefferson County on Monday, causing over 6,000 power outages and minor damage.
The EF-0 tornado touched down in the western part of the county, downing power lines and trees. The strongest winds recorded were 80 mph and the tornado traveled 5.83 miles.
In Winston County, straight-line winds caused more damage and power outages. Alabama Power reported over 18,500 power outages across Central Alabama.
No injuries were reported.
Another severe weather threat on Wednesday will bring more thunderstorms and wind gusts forecasted up to 60 mph. There is a level one to two risk from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday. Tornadoes and hail are possible.
