The man charged in the February 22, 2023, deaths of four people in Daphne could go to trial on May 12, 2025.

Jared Tarant Smith-Bracy, 22, is accused of killing three family members and a family friend with a gun and pickax. He is charged with capital murder.

The victims in the case were Smith-Bracy's brother, Jeremy Smith, 27, and his grandparents, Barbara Smith, 72, and Leonard Smith, 80, and family friend Sheila Glover, 70.

Investigators said Smith-Bracy was arrested earlier in the day for criminal mischief. When he returned home, he got out of the car with a gun and forced his way into the home. A witness heard gunshots and called police. Three of the victims were shot in the backyard, then Smith-Bracy went back into the house, bludgeoned his grandfather, then returned to the backyard and bludgeoned the three victims he had already shot.

Smith-Bracy has undergone two mental evaluations and will have a competency hearing in February.

He remains in jail without bond.
