A former Bayou La Batre police officer charged with first-degree rape, second-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse by force and second-degree sexual abuse will go to trial in less than a year.
William “B.J.” Squires was indicted on the charges, with prosecutors claiming the victim was a girl younger than 16 and older than 12.
Squires was out of jail on bond until June, when his bond was revoked because he attended a baseball game in Biloxi, Miss. A judge denied a motion to reinstate bond on Thursday and set the trial for June 8, 2026.
Squires is being held in the Mobile Metro Jail. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
