The chairwoman of the Mobile County Republican Executive Committee (MCREC) has announced that she will not run for another term.
Tricia Strange said she will not seek re-election when the committee meets Monday to elect new officers.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the Southwest Mobile Chamber of Commerce, 5055 Carol Plantation Road. The public is invited, but no ticket or RSVP is needed. Only members of MCREC can vote on the new officers.
The county party issued this statement on the departure of Strange from the party chairmanship after serving four years:
Our county party, voters, elected officials and supporters would like to thank our outgoing Chairman Tricia Strange for her incredible service of four years leading our county party. Chairman Strange has organized our team for four years- primaries, general elections, headquarters, public outreach, speaking engagements, qualifying candidates, raising funds and planning events. We are truly grateful for her dedication and time served in many public and private capacities for our party. Bravo Chairman Strange for serving when called upon- and doing a superb job with great dignity and grace.
At least one candidate is running to become the new Mobile GOP Chair, although others can be nominated from the floor at Monday's meeting. It is former State Rep. Ken Kvalheim (R-Mobile), former Vice President of The Mitchell Company. He also served as President of the National Alumni Association of the University of South Alabama.
The Mobile GOP committee is considered vital in state politics and has spurred the election of state and local Republican officials. Those include:
Former U.S. Senator and State Attorney General Jeff Sessions
Former Congressmen Sonny Callahan, Jo Bonner and Jerry Carl
Former Mobile Mayor Arthur Outlaw and current Mayor Sandy Stimpson
Former Court of Civil Appeals Judge Craig Pittman
Current Court of Civil Appeals Judge Terry A. Moore
Former State Auditor Jim Zeigler
Current State Board of Education Member Jackie Zeigler
Numerous state legislators and city and county officials
The GOP committee meets quarterly. More information is at: https://www.mobilegop.org/
While an election or appointment is needed to become a voting member of the executive committee, any Republican can help by joining the 2025 Mobile GOP Club. It is a way everyone can help replenish the $60,000 MCREC spent on the November elections and plan for 2026. The organization is 100% volunteers. The party is encouraging all Republicans in Mobile County to join the club at https://www.mobilegop.org/mobile-gop-club
