Tropical Storm Arthur is expected to dump 5 to 7 inches of rain on an already soaked Alabama over the next few days.
Meteorologists predict that what’s left of the storm on Thursday will mostly impact the southern part of the state and up to the Birmingham area.
While tornadoes are possible, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) placed the southern two-thirds of Alabama in a marginal risk and at a probability of 2%. The SPC stated there is a risk of wind damage and “perhaps a tornado or two.”
While winds are a concern, the system is expected to weaken as it makes its way across the state. Forecasters predict flash flooding is likely. South Alabama has been drenched over the past several days and rain totals could reach 7 inches by Saturday.
Tropical Storm Arthur is the first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
