Jon Sumrall, whose first Troy University football team is fresh off the best FBS season in school history, has already welcomed more than 20 midyear enrollees on campus. Like every other program, the Trojans are busy working toward the 2023 season.
Sumrall's first team as the head coach at Troy finished 11-2 overall, won the Sun Belt Conference championship, beat UTSA in the Cure Bowl and was ranked in the final Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25.
It's time to turn the page.
"I think they understand 2022 has nothing to do with having success in 2023," Sumrall said in a teleconference last week. "It's a totally different team. They have to go out and earn it and be prepared to earn the right to have an opportunity to find success. A lot of roster movement has happened."
Sumrall listed 22 players who are already enrolled in school and working with the team. He said there are at least three more midyear players who are working with the team but want to wait until this Wednesday's signing day to be announced.
