The Donald Trump administration's U.S. Department of Labor recently announced that Donald Harrison III has been appointed acting administrator of the department's Wage and Hour Division.
According to the administration, Harrison has been acting administrator since the beginning of last month. It's still unclear why the announcement is just now forthcoming.
The wage and hour division of the labor department is responsible for enforcing the nation's labor laws, including enforcing wage laws, ensuring adequate family and medical leave, worker assistance, enforcing compliance and ivestigations.
Harrison held several positions with the Alabama Department of Labor (ADOL), the title of which was changed to the Alabama Department of Workforce last year. Harrison worked as general counsel at the Workforce Department and was later appointed deputy secretary in 2022. He also served as a Project Leader for the ADOL's pandemic response.
Prior to his time in state government, he worked for nine years as an attorney in private law practice in Birmingham, focusing on Civil Litigation, OSHA, Workers' Compensation and more.
Harrison holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law.
