Could Alligator Alcatraz be coming to Alabama?

On Tuesday, while touring the immigration detention camp in Florida's Everglades that is surrounded by alligators and called "Alligator Alcatraz," President Donald Trump suggested that Alabama and Louisiana were also working on their own versions.

A reporter asked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Trump if other states would have their own iterations of the Alligator Alcatraz as migrant detention centers.

"They are doing it," Trump replied. "We have Louisiana doing it, big Alabama's doing it. We have a lot of states — they seem to be red states; not too many blue states for whatever reason, you know. But the red states, Republican-run states, are doing it."

"The blue states don't do very well at security and policing, unfortunately," he added.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called on other governors to follow Florida's suit.

"Florida was unique in what they presented to us, and I would ask every other governor to do the exact same thing," Noem said.
