In a Tuesday interview on "Alabama's Morning News with JT," U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) doubled down on her appreciation for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's swift action to continue the teaching about the Tuskegee Airmen to recruits at Air Force basic training after Democrats claimed that the Air Force would no longer teach their history due to President Donald Trump's recent DEI executive order.
Britt again described the removal as "malicious compliance" and warned the far-left was "trying to undermine what Donald Trump is doing."
“Look, I'm grateful for Secretary Hegseth," Britt outlined. "He acted quickly and decisively to correct what I call malicious compliance. You had someone within the department that thought, 'I'll show you, Donald Trump. Look, what the Tuskegee Airmen did, that is absolutely not DEI. That is absolutely the basis of merit-based accomplishment. I mean, there, the history, what they did, what they went through, what they accomplished should not only be taught, it should be celebrated and honored for generations to come. And that's exactly what's going to happen."
"I mean, you look back to President Trump's first term. He celebrated and honored the Tuskegee Airmen by promoting that legendary aviator, Charles McGee, to brigadier general," she continued. "He penned the stars on in the Oval Office, making sure that people knew, look, that these airmen are going to remain role models, and they're going to continue to inspire the next generation. And so we want our military focused on lethality. We want them focused on merit to achieve peace through strength."
Britt continued, "And that's exactly what the Tuskegee Airmen embody. So you're going to see this. You see people from the far left, no matter what the issue is, trying to undermine what Donald Trump is doing."
Alabama's freshman U.S. Senator then pointed to U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) criticizing Trump's tariff feud with Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
“I mean, we saw it with Colombia and the tariffs, and you saw AOC come out and say, well, now we're going to have to pay more for coffee," Britt explained. "I thought, don't say that to Laken Riley's parents' face, AOC, because it is absolutely ridiculous. Every American, if in fact that's what happened, if we had to pay a little bit more for a cup of coffee, to know that our daughter, when she goes out on the run, is going to come home and not have to fight for her life for 18 minutes with a man who is here illegally, who has committed crimes on our soil, who was not detained as he should have been.”
