In recent months, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) has introduced legislation working to limit the influence of Islam within the United States, while also warning of the dangers posed by the religion. The lawmaker has been particularly vocal about the need to fight the establishment of an Islamic private academy in Hoover.

As a result of his efforts, Tuberville has now been branded an "anti-Muslim extremist" by the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR).

"Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville is not only a bigot using George Wallace-era tactics against the American Muslim community," CAIR wrote in a press statement. "He is also a coward."

"We are formally listing Senator Tuberville as an anti-Muslim extremist. This is the very first time we have ever designated a U.S. senator as an anti-Muslim bigot. He deserves it. And like George Wallace before him, Tuberville's bigotry will also one day disappear into the trash can of history, God willing," added CAIR.

Tuberville responded to CAIR, proudly accepting the new designation.

"Badge of honor," the lawmaker wrote on X. "I will NEVER stop fighting for AMERICANS and our Constitutional values."

In October, Tuberville filed the No Sharia Act, which would prohibit the application of Sharia Law in the United States, where it would violate constitutional rights and the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act which prevents all foreign nationals supporting Sharia law from entering the United States.

CAIR was recently designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the states of Florida and Texas.
