The Federal Reserve is holding interest rates steady despite President Donald Trump's repeated calls for a 2.5-point reduction.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell announced Wednesday that rates would remain between 4.25% and 4.5% despite a strong economy due to uncertainty over Trump's tariffs, CNN reported.
Trump responded by calling Powell "one of the dumbest, and most destructive, people in Government" for ignoring his requests for lower rates.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) also appeared displeased with Powell's obstinacy. On Thursday morning, Coach said on X, "Today's a great day to fire Jerome Powell."
Trump said cutting the rate could save the U.S. "billions" on "on all of Biden's Short Term Debt."
