Following eight Senate Democrats voting in favor of a House-passed continuing resolution on Sunday evening, the U.S. government looks to be on its way to reopening after a record 40-day shutdown.

With the legislation now having passed the Senate, conservatives in the upper chamber are criticizing their Democratic counterparts for staging the shutdown.

According to U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), the political episode has been an "unmasking moment" for Democrats.

"As I predicted, Democrats magically came up with the votes to reopen the government after the VA/NJ/NYC elections on Tuesday," Tuberville wrote in an X post. "But make no mistake…this was an unmasking moment for the Democrat party. Americans now understand that Democrats care more about providing FREE HEALTHCARE to ILLEGALS than they do about paying our troops, law enforcement, and air traffic controllers."

"They will pay the price in the midterms," he added.

According to Fox News, the CR funds military construction, the Department of Agriculture and the legislative branch through September 30, 2026, and the rest of the government through January 30.

The bill passed the Senate by a margin of 60-40, meeting the minimum threshold requirement.
