During Wednesday's broadcast of Fox Business Network's "Kudlow," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), a candidate for governor, excoriated Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) for his handling of the civil unrest in Los Angeles.
Alabama's senior U.S. Senator likened California to a third-world country and suggested Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass should "be in jail."
"If you just think about this summer coming up, it's probably going to be the summer of hate, as to the summer of love, Larry," he said. "We've got huge problems — 1,400 protests just this weekend. But at the end of the day, President Trump never hesitated with this — he goes in, this is a third-world country run by a communist governor. The guy should be in jail. And also, the mayor. This is an absolute disgrace."
Tuberville also lobbied for the passage of the so-called "big, beautiful bill," which he said made tax cuts a priority.
"The citizens of California should be treated a lot better than this," Tuberville continued. "But at the end of the day, it's really going to help, as you said, coming back to the big, beautiful bill. President Trump means business. You know, if you look at this bill, about three-fourths of it is tax cuts for all Americans, tax cuts. And that's what we need. We've got to get that done. There's some things in there — I don't agree with it, a little too much spending. But the one thing we have to get done is the tax cuts and all those other things will work themselves out as we go through this bill and another reconciliation down the road."
"But President Trump means business," he added. "He knows what he is doing. He's got huge backing from really smart people like Bessent and Lutnick, and all of the people who are working the trade and tariff deals. I'm fired up about the big, beautiful bill being passed here in the very near future."
