Democrats voting against funding the federal government by a Friday deadline would be “political suicide,” according to U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn).
The House already passed legislation funding the federal government until September. The bill is now in the Senate.
Tuberville told Newsmax an agreement would likely be reached by Friday's deadline, but it will be the fault of Democrats if the government shuts down over the weekend.
“I call it the woke mind virus. That’s what the Democrats have. They don’t want to work with anybody. They don’t want to work to save this country. There’s no way they’re going to shut this government down. It would be political suicide. They’ll come to an agreement tomorrow somehow, some way,” Tuberville said.
“You’ve got all these people standing up saying, ‘We’re going to vote against it.’ The problem they have is they should have fired Chuck Schumer about three months ago and got them a new leader that had some common sense," he continued. "Chuck Schumer has been just overboard against President Trump. They’re not going to do anything to help the American people along with President Trump so their leadership is going to get them in trouble. If they shut it down, it’s their fault. The ball is in their court. Let them do it. At the end of the day, they don’t have enough guts to do it.”
