U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) recently expressed frustration with the Biden administration for being tight-lipped about the rash of unidentified drone sightings over New York, New Jersey and neighboring states.
The federal government's failure to provide sufficient answers on the drones' source and intent has led to rampant social media speculation.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has repeatedly said there are no signs that any drone operators have shown ill intent, and there is no evidence of foreign involvement. The seemingly unconcerned attitude of federal officials has led to the general online consensus that the drones are somehow the work of the government.
On Monday, President-elect Donald Trump gave an evasive answer on whether he had received an intelligence briefing on the drones but emphatically stated that "the government knows what is happening."
On a Wednesday conference call with reporters, Tuberville also expressed frustration with the lack of clarity from the Biden White House, harkening back to a similar event last year where a large, high-altitude Chinese balloon sailed across the United States for days before eventually being shot down.
"Well, it's kind of typical of the last four years; the animals are running the zoo," Tuberville said. "The American people deserve answers on this. Last year, we had a Chinese spy balloon fly all the way across the country, and we finally shot it down after it got over the Atlantic."
"So, we don't know what this is or who's controlling it. As you heard President Trump, he said that, in his hearings or his briefings, that they know where they're coming from and know where they're going. Just tell the American people. Quit being secretive about this. You know, it's really unacceptable to not warn the American people or at least give them some kind of information about what the heck's going on. It just shows you the lack of leadership in the White House, and that will all change on January 20 of 2025."
