During a Wednesday call with the press, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said more information would come to light on Iranian University of Alabama doctoral student Alireza Doroudi, who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week.
Doroudi's lawyer maintains his client is a legal resident, but the Department of Homeland Security said Doroudi was a national security concern.
"Obviously, at the end of the day, more information will be revealed," Tuberville declared.
Speaking more broadly, Alabama's senior U.S. Senator emphasized that anyone not from the United States who refused to follow the country's laws "should be going home."
"We're all in national security. We all have seen what has happened over the last four years. Under the Biden administration, we've had millions of people come here that are not citizens. We have also had people come in from other countries come into universities that are waving other people's flags, taunting other students and not going by the rules of our country. If you don't go by the rules of our country, you should be going home."
"And again, it's a subject that's near and dear to, I think, all of our hearts: hey, this is America. You come here, you go by the laws. If you don't, you go home. If you're an illegal, you're going to be sent home eventually," he continued.
