During a Tuesday appearance on Fox Business Network's "The Evening Edit," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) weighed in on the nationwide uprising against the brutal Iranian regime.
President Donald Trump has urged the people of Iran to continue their protests with the promise of help on the way. He also announced on Monday a 25% import tariff on products from any country doing business with Iran, which is a major oil exporter.
Tuberville, also a Republican candidate for governor, told host Elizabeth MacDonald that Trump "has a great opportunity" to help overthrow the regime through tariffs.
"[F]irst of all, President Trump has a great opportunity here; he knows it," Tuberville outlined. "Iran is in disarray. They're protesting in the street. The problem is that there aren't a lot of things we can do to help other than tariffs, tell people to stay out of it, stay out of the way. We have to overthrow this regime, but we can't do it ourselves. It has got to be done by the people there in Iran. We're trying to clean up the mess that ended with Joe Biden in the last four years, but started with Jimmy Carter back in the late '70s, when the Ayatollah overthrew Iran and basically turned it into a Communist state."
He continued, "So, at the end of the day, we have to let the people of Iran take this over, but we've got to give them help with tariffs to keep other people involved."
