On Monday, President Donald Trump issued an executive order requiring the State and Treasury Departments to investigate the possibility of classifying certain chapters or other subdivisions of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

According to the White House, the Muslim group, founded in Egypt in 1928, has developed into a transnational network with chapters across the globe. Its chapters in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt "engage in or facilitate and support violence and destabilization campaigns that harm their own regions, United States citizens, and United States interests."

Trump's order has gained the endorsement of Republican legislators across the country, including U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn). In a statement to 1819 News, the lawmaker, who has frequently warned of the dangers of radical Islam, praised the possibility of designating Muslim Brotherhood chapters as terrorist organizations.

"I fully support President Trump's potential designation of Muslim Brotherhood chapters as terrorist organizations," Tuberville said. "We can't be naive about this — the Muslim Brotherhood wants to see every freedom-loving American dead. The reality is that Radical Islam is fundamentally incompatible with our Western values. It isn't a religion, it's a death cult and it does not belong here."

While the executive order marks progress, Tuberville stressed that the fight against militant Islam is far from over.

"This is an important step, but there's still more to be done. Radical Islam has destroyed Europe and the Middle East. If we don't wake up, America will be next," Tuberville added.

Alabama's senior U.S. Senator recently filed the No Sharia Act, which would prohibit the application of Sharia Law in the United States, where it would violate constitutional rights and the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act, which prevents all foreign nationals supporting Sharia law from entering the United States.
