Russia and Ukraine may be a couple of steps closer to a peace deal after the leaders of the two countries met separately with President Donald Trump.

Russian President Vladimir Putin joined Trump in Alaska over the weekend and, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, met with him and other world leaders on Monday at the White House. Both meetings were reportedly productive in working toward an end to the war.

On Monday's episode of Fox Business Network's "Kudlow," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) praised Trump's efforts and emphasized the dire need for a deal fast.

"We have no cards to play. Putin is winning. He's making progress… He's got all the cards to play," Tuberville said. "... We've run Russia to China. That's something that's really going to be rough on us over the years. We have got to get Russia back in the fold… We do not want to go up against Russia and China. We need to get Russia thinking more about democracy, other than communism."

He continued, "Thank goodness we got President Trump that's speaking for us. He's a leader… Putin respects President Trump, and that's the key card to play in this game… This is right up his [Trump's] alley, Larry. He loves to negotiate. He's a peacemaker. I mean, he's already stopped, what, five, six, seven wars that have been fighting all over the world the last 10, 15 years."

Tuberville criticized European leaders for not investing as much in ending the war as the United States has.

"President Trump understands that he can't solve all of our problems here in our country within our borders unless he gets this mess cleaned up in Ukraine because we are leaking oil bad… The Europeans have to get skin in the game. They're the ones that're sitting back, letting President Trump do all this. They should be out front doing this… Europe has not shown a strong hand one single time in the last three years," he outlined.
