During a call with reporters on Thursday, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) discussed the resignation of former U.S. National Counter Terrorism Center director Joe Kent and Kent's claim that Israel has intentionally pushed America into a war with Iran.
According to Tuberville, Kent had not been a part of confidential briefings for some time, possibly indicating a lack of trust among his superiors.
"There's a lot more to this story than what you think," said Tuberville. "He was not invited back for the last several months to confidential, intelligent briefings, and there are a lot of reasons for that. He didn't live up to the expectations for our country or support President Trump at all. He needed to resign at the end of the day."
The legislator argued that Kent is a member of the "deep state" and is unfit for the position, given his alleged inability to cooperate with other Trump administration officials.
"It's all called deep state. The guy has been somehow, some way indoctrinated into thinking that anything President Trump does is wrong, and it's not the only thing he has disagreed with President Trump on," Tuberville continued. "So at the end of the day, if somebody in this situation does not agree with the decisions made by our joint chiefs, Secretary of War, President Trump, all the generals involved and all the admirals involved, he needs to find another job, because you're just one person out there. "
Tuberville added, "If you're going to work for the federal government, you need to be on the team, and obviously, he wasn't on the same team as President Trump and all our military war fighters and our leaders."
