U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) acknowledged the continued increase in gas prices caused by the war in Iran during a call with reporters on Thursday.
"Everybody's impacted," remarked Tuberville. "I worry about everybody across the country. I worry about people in Alabama. I worry about Spring Breakers. I worry about our farmers. There are a lot of things going on. But I'll say this, if we have the opportunity to bring down the regime in Iran and be able to help stop terrorism in this country, it will be worth a few weeks of higher prices."
The legislator said he was surprised by how quickly the cost of gas rose after the conflict broke out, while stressing the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for trade.
"Now, I can't believe it went up this fast, because we have oil reserves. We have things all over the world," continued Tuberville. "A lot of this has happened because of Wall Street. At the end of the day, we've got to get this war over with. We've got to get the Strait of Hormuz open. We're missing a lot of things, not just oil, but also fertilizer for our farmers. I know it's tough on everybody. It's going to be very hard for probably a few more weeks."
Tuberville called for prayer for members of the U.S. military, President Donald Trump and Americans across the world.
"This is a tough time, and this is a moment where we can really correct a lot of problems if we make the right decisions here in the next few weeks," he stated, adding, "But again, I know prices are getting on up there a little higher."
