With the 2024 presidential election less than two weeks away, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said Democrats are trying to cause "turmoil" in Alabama and keep Republicans from voting.
On Newsmax's "Wake up America" on Tuesday, Tuberville said U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland's legal effort to stop a purge of non-citizens from Alabama's voter rolls was part of a Democrat plan to jam up the voting process in a deep-red state.
"Everybody should clean up their voting rolls, but we've had a lot of non-citizens registered to vote, and that's not going to happen in our state of Alabama," the senator said. "It's all a plan. They try to keep everybody in turmoil, but it's not going to work."
Tuberville said he wasn't concerned about former President Donald Trump's chances of winning Alabama, but he encouraged voters to vote Republican down ballot as well.
"You know, Alabama obviously will be a Donald Trump state. That's no problem there," he said. "But we got to make sure that we have congressional seats covered because our representatives run every two years. I'm not up this year; Katie [Britt] is not up this year. But our representatives are, and we want to make sure we turn out strong. But Democrats are trying to do everything they possibly can to keep Republicans from voting."
