U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) defended a recent letter he signed stating he’d block Democrat spending proposals and legislation after a New York State jury rendered a 34-count guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump.

Tuberville, along with seven of his Republican U.S. Senate colleagues, pledged to no longer cooperate with the Biden administration in what they deemed a "project to tear this country apart."

Tuberville and seven Republican colleagues said in the letter they were “no longer cooperating with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations, and we invite all concerned Senators to join our stand.”

Tuberville was asked about the letter on Newsmax’s National Report on Tuesday.

“It’s not just sending a message to the Democrats and to Joe Biden. It’s also sending a message to our Republican colleagues, people in our caucus. To me, they’re not really taking this as seriously as we should,” Tuberville said. “The American people need to wake up. This is a war. This is a war on our constitutional rights, our constitutional republic. This is not as much about Donald Trump as it is about the people in this country. I don’t call us Republicans and Democrats anymore. You’re either for our great country the way it’s been for the past 248 years or you’re anti, you want to change it to how you want it to be.”

Tuberville continued, “Basically at the end of the day, these Democrats are trying to take away our rights, our health care rights, our gun rights, our privacy rights. They want to censor everything we do. They want to take away your money. They want to take away your voting rights. This is not going to stop.”

“We’re trying to get something over to even our Republican colleagues say, this can’t go any longer. We have to stop this train from going down the track. If we don’t, we will lose in November, this coming year, this is not over. The Democrats are not finished with this. They will continue to pound this every day,” Tuberville said.
