On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) took Democrats to task over their choice of candidates, particularly Graham Platner, who is running for U.S. Senate in Maine.
Platner's campaign has been plagued by scandal, from a Nazi tattoo, illicit texts and online posts, and testimony of previous girl friends.
"The Socialist Terrorist Party up there, they have no answer for this, Liz, it's amazing," Tuberville said on Fox Business News' "The Evening Edit."
"Look at Texas candidate [James] Talarico. He's an oddball, and of course, they have a congressional candidate in New Jersey who is basically a terrorist, and now you've got this guy in Maine," he continued. "We don't know what he is. I mean, I don't think he knows what he is. He has no answers to anything. He won't talk to any media, but at the end of the day, you feel bad for the people that are actually Democrats in this country; they have no representation."
Tuberville said Platner had no chance in the general election against incumbent U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who has served since 1997.
"She has a great base up there," he said. "They understand her. She represents both sides. She's not just Republican. She helps out the people on the left in her constituency. So, he's somebody that they just fell into. They can't find anybody else, they have no candidates, they have no candidates anywhere, so they're just basically grasping for straws here, Liz."
