Now that the dust has settled over President Donald Trump’s "One Big Beautiful Bill," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) says lawmakers have begun work on what is slated to be the next big fight for lawmakers: the defense budget.

The debate over Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill was full of drama, with commentators both on and off Capitol Hill signaling support or disapproval of Trump’s initiatives. However, it ultimately passed both houses last week.

Now, Senate lawmakers have begun working on what promises to be the next big battle in Congress, the National Defense Authorization Act of 2026 (NDAA).

On Thursday, Tuberville both praised the results for Alabama delivered in the Big Beautiful Bill and boasted of numerous wins for the state in the upcoming NDAA, which is being considered by the committee on which he sits.

“This week, the Senate Armed Forces Committee has been marking up the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, or what is better known as the NDAA,” Tuberville said. “It’s an honor to fight for our service men and women, and Alabama’s defense priorities during this entire process. I’m excited about the conservative wins we secured for Alabama’s institutions and our military communities. I look forward to sharing more of these wins in the weeks to come.”

“Secretary [of Defense] Pete Hegseth has been doing an outstanding job of making our military strong again, and I’m confident that this NDAA will help[ continue our return to peace through strength," he added.
