President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were "putting America first" in their meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday morning, according to U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn).
Trump, Vance, and Zelenskyy engaged in a heated back-and-forth at a White House meeting on Friday over the amount of support the United States has given Ukraine in its war with Russia and the prospects of bringing the conflict to an end.
Tuberville thanked Trump and Vance after the meeting "for putting America first" and called Zelenskyy a "disgrace."
"Thank God for the leadership of President Trump and Vice President Vance. Zelenskyy is an absolute disgrace. He has happily taken the $220 billion American taxpayer dollars that Joe Biden gave him without showing an ounce of gratitude or delivering any results. We should not send Ukraine another cent."
Trump said after the meeting, "We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It's amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don't want advantage, I want PEACE."
"He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace," he added.
