On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) called for leftist groups across the nation, including Alabama, holding mass protests against the administration to do so "peacefully."
President Donald Trump will be turning 79 this Saturday, the same day as the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary. To celebrate, leftist groups across the nation are planning to hold mass protests against the administration, 13 of which are planned in Alabama.
In a call with members of the press, Tuberville acknowledged the protesters' right to protest peacefully but pleaded with them to respect law enforcement and not damage property, which would be a stark contrast from the protests in Los Angeles earlier this week.
"Very simple: peaceful protest," Tuberville said when asked if he had a message for protesters. "What we're seeing in California is not peaceful. Obviously, they were burning cars right and left before anybody other than just the Los Angeles Police were on guard there. It's a total disaster."
"People this weekend need to peacefully protest. I see where there's 1,500 protests that are scheduled all across our great nation. Respect the law enforcement. You have a right to go out and peacefully protest, but please do it peacefully. No harm to anybody. No harm to anybody's property. And let's get through this weekend and show everybody that we're true Americans," he concluded.
