A Holt High School teacher was arrested on campus on Wednesday for public intoxication.
Tuscaloosa County School System Superintendent Keri Johnson and Holt High Principal Daniel Dickens said in a letter on Wednesday that Melissa Steele had been arrested and placed on administrative leave.
“We want to make you aware of a situation involving one of our employees. Melissa Steele, a teacher at Holt High School, was arrested at Holt High today (Wednesday, March 19) and charged with public intoxication," the school officials stated.
“Because of laws that govern employee privacy, we cannot publicly discuss details of a legal investigation involving an employee. However, it is important for our families and community to know that Ms. Steele is on administrative leave, and TCSS will cooperate fully with law enforcement in their investigation. Also, no substances were located on the Holt High campus or in Ms. Steele's vehicle,” Johnson and Dickens said. “While we are limited in what we can discuss about an investigation involving an employee, please reach out to your school administrator if you ever have any questions or concerns to express.”
