Family and friends in Montgomery are mourning the loss of Tuskegee University student Macahri Washington-Parker, who died Sunday at age 20.

Washington-Parker was a shortstop for the Tuskegee Golden Tigers baseball team and a junior in mechanical engineering. He was a graduate of Montgomery’s Brewbaker Technical Magnet School, where he won the Rose H. Lott Scholarship.

A native of Montgomery, Washington-Parker was a New Student Orientation leader and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Known for his positive spirit, leadership, and dedication both on and off the field, he made a lasting impact on teammates, classmates, and the wider Tuskegee community.

"We are heartbroken to learn of Macahri's passing," said Dr. Mark A. Brown, Tuskegee University president. "We will come together to uplift his family and each other during this time."

Reginald Ruffin, Tuskegee University director of athletics, stated, "Macahri embodied what it means to be a Golden Tiger, hard-working, committed, and always willing to lead by example. His impact extended beyond the diamond into every space he entered on campus. Our entire athletics family mourns this tremendous loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

Details on memorial arrangements will be shared as soon as they become available.
