It’s a long way from Tuskegee to Hollywood. That’s the path that the life and career of singer/songwriter Lionel Richie took.
Richie, 76, was at home in his Beverly Hills mansion after midnight Friday when a call came in to the Beverly Hills Police Department. It was a report of a suspected intruder in the plush 90210 zip code. Turns out, it was Richie’s home, and he was at home when an intruder intruded.
With a quick response from the PD, a suspect, Michael Bond, was arrested at Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Glen, near Richie’s home. He was charged with residential burglary.
There were no injuries, and nothing was missing in the incident. There is no indication yet as to whether Bond knew whose home he had broken into.
Richie initiated his musical career as frontman for the Tuskegee-based group, The Commodores, while still a student at Tuskegee University. He then launched a stellar solo career.
Richie’s memoirs are scheduled for publication on September 30. The book "Truly" reflects Richie’s growing up in Alabama and his path to stardom.
