Two 18-year-olds in Montgomery have been charged with murder, and one is accused of shooting at a responding police officer, which shut down a portion of Zelda Road in Montgomery on Tuesday.

At about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, The Montgomery Police Department (MPD) and fire medics responded to the 2600 block of Zelda Road about a subject shot. Rodriquez Harris, Jr., 24, of Montgomery, was found at the scene. He sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased.

MPD charged Rodriques Humphrey, 18, of Montgomery, with capital murder and attempted murder of a police officer. Trawick Smith, 18, of Montgomery, was charged with capital murder. Humphrey and Smith were quickly identified as suspects, taken into custody and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond.

According to court records, both Humphrey and Smith discharged firearms from a black Honda CR-V, striking Harris. MPD's public information officer, Saba Coleman, was reportedly on routine patrol in the area when shots were fired. Coleman responded to the scene and took fire from Humphrey with an AR pistol. Coleman was not struck by the gunfire, according to multiple reports.

The shooting caused the MPD to advise citizens to avoid the entire 2600 block of Zelda Road Tuesday afternoon.
