Two Phenix City women were arrested on multiple charges of absentee ballot fraud on Wednesday.

According to the Phenix City Police Department, the ballot harvesting investigation began after the city clerk’s office received multiple reports of unusual absentee ballot activity in the upcoming municipal election.

According to WRBL, the investigation revealed that Thalia Jenkins Hardin and Valerie Carter allegedly engaged in illegal ballot harvesting by submitting multiple absentee ballots for other voters.

Hardin and Carter reportedly advised law enforcement that they were volunteers for Jamar Gayles, a candidate for Phenix City Council District 3.
