The situation is under control at Mobile’s Saenger Theatre after two people were shot at a children’s dance recital around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
One additional person was injured in the ensuing melee.
An argument broke out between two adults who reportedly knew each other. One pulled out a gun and shot the other and an additional victim. The shooter fled the scene but later turned himself in.
There are no other suspects, and there is believed to be no further danger.
There is no report on the identification and conditions of the three injured at the time of this report. The suspect in custody has also not yet been identified.
Mobile Police chief William Jackson made a statement after the shooting, saying: “To bring this to a child’s dance recital is completely unacceptable.”
He said the metal detectors and other measures to prevent the presence of guns inside the Saenger were apparently not operative.
