U.S. House Republicans voted Tuesday to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his mishandling of the illegal immigrant crisis at the southern border.

The impeachment resolution narrowly passed with a vote of 214-213 compared to 214-216 on the first, failed attempt.

Alabama’s Republican House delegation voted in favor of impeachment, each expressing frustration at Mayorkas’ failure to secure the border.

“Secretary Mayorkas deserved every single vote in favor of his impeachment that he got,” U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) posted on X. “He is derelict in his duty, and our country is less safe because of him. [House GOP] will not stop until our border is secure.”

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said in a statement following the vote, "Secretary Mayorkas deliberately opened our borders and allowed nearly 10 million illegals to invade our country on the taxpayer's dime. If his mouth is moving, he's lying. Mayorkas has violated the law and his oath of office, putting American families in danger and causing chaos in our cities, and it's past time for him to be held accountable."

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said Mayorkas had failed to uphold his oath to protect the Constitution.

“He may have a right to believe in open borders, but he has no right to keep his current employment. The American people deserve better,” Palmer said.

U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) said Mayorkas had "blood on his hands" related to the over 100 criminal migrants on the FBI's terrorist watch list that have made it across the border so far.

"It's way past time to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable,” Carl said. “Our Southern Border is wide open, and Secretary Mayorkas has done absolutely nothing to bring relief to the crisis the Biden administration has created. President Biden inherited the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years, and 3 years into his presidency, we are seeing the highest-ever rate of illegal immigrants pouring into our country… Secretary Mayorkas took an oath to defend and protect our country when he was sworn in as Secretary of Homeland Security, and he has completely failed to fulfill that oath. There is blood on his hands, and it is past time that he be held accountable for failing to do his job.”

In his statement on why he voted to impeach, U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) said the number of illegals allowed to cross the border under the Biden administration outnumbered the population of Alabama.

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) said he looked forward to the evidence against Mayorkas coming out during the trial process in the Senate.

“I look forward to the evidence being presented to the Senate and urge my Senate colleagues to remove Sec. Mayorkas for the harm he has done to the American people.
