The U.S. Marshals Service conducted an operation in Jefferson County to make an arrest in connection to a May 16 murder investigation.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office first responded to the incident in eastern Jefferson County on Narrows Road. The victim, 54-year-old Joseph Keith Alexander, of Gardendale, was found shot. He was taken to UAB Hospital, where he died nearly a month later, on June 12.

Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office determined the shooting occurred following a road rage incident.

The Marshals Service assisted and located Javier Brykese Burney, 26, of Pleasant Grove, early Friday morning. He was in the 300 block of Morgan Road, near Bessemer, when he was apprehended.

Burney was placed into the Jefferson County Jail and charged with capital murder - drive-by shooting and four charges of failing to appear in court. He is being held with no bond.
