For years, President Biden postured while Venezuela was collapsing. He issued statements, international bodies passed resolutions, and sanctions piled up from around the world, but Nicolas Maduro, a known narco-trafficker and illegitimate president, remained in power. His regime focused on chaos, crime and misery that extended far beyond the Venezuelan border.
President Trump’s bold decision to remove him in a law enforcement operation was not about global ambition. It was about putting America First.
Maduro was not simply a foreign dictator mismanaging his country. His regime functioned as a narco-state, enabling drug trafficking networks that poison American communities, partnering with hostile foreign nations and fueling a mass migration crisis that overwhelmed our southern border under Biden.
Each year he remained in power, Americans paid the price through fentanyl deaths, strained border resources and growing instability in our hemisphere. From an America First perspective, allowing that threat to persist was not restraint – it was negligence.
President Trump’s decisive action reflects leadership and a core principle he has championed since day one in office: peace through strength.
The President made it clear that America would no longer outsource its security to failed institutions or tolerate threats in our backyard. When diplomacy, sanctions and international pressure fail, strength restored a bit of peace.
The left always warns of “precedent” or “optics”, but the real precedent was decades of inaction that emboldened dictators and cartels alike. Removing Maduro sends a clear message – narco-regimes that export crime and instability to America will not be allowed to operate with impunity just because they hide behind borders.
This America First approach by President Trump seeks to bring stability in Venezuela that benefits American workers and families. A secure hemisphere means fewer migrants forced to flee, less cartel power and more reliable energy markets, all without endless wars or nation-building experiments.
This is what real leadership looks like.
Capturing Maduro shows the world that America still stands ready to defend our interests, protect our people and rise against tyranny when it directly threatens our security.
This is responsible and strong, America First leadership. I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump to protect American families.
