For too long, the men and women who wear the badge have been treated as political punching bags instead of the heroes they are. While radical activists and soft-on-crime politicians have spent years attacking law enforcement, crime surged, communities suffered, and Americans lost confidence that the law would actually be enforced.
The truth is simple - safe communities depend on strong law enforcement.
Every day, Alabama’s law enforcement put their lives on the line to protect families they may never meet. They respond to violent crimes, drug trafficking, domestic violence calls, human trafficking operations, and organized criminal networks, usually, due to the left’s constant demonization of law enforcement, often with little recognition.
That is why I have proudly stood with law enforcement since I was first elected to Congress. An important measure the House just passed this week is the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act. This legislation cracks down on sophisticated theft rings that are costing businesses billions of dollars and putting workers, customers, and law enforcement at risk.
I have also supported strong border security measures aimed at stopping fentanyl trafficking and violent criminals before they ever reach our communities. House Republicans have advanced legislation to strengthen cargo inspections at ports of entry and crack down on the cartels flooding our country with fentanyl.
Every community, especially those in Alabama, has seen the devastation caused by this poison. Many families have an empty seat at their dinner table because of it. Securing the border is not just an immigration issue - it is about protecting the communities we represent.
Supporting law enforcement also means ensuring officers have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. Through the FY2026 appropriations process, I have helped secure funding for public safety priorities across Alabama’s First Congressional District, including support for upgraded radios, police vehicles, and equipment for local law enforcement agencies. These investments help officers improve emergency response capabilities, modernize communications, and better protect the communities they serve.
Our law enforcement officers deserve elected officials willing to back them up year-round by enforcing the law, prosecuting criminals, securing our border, and rejecting the dangerous anti-police rhetoric that has damaged morale and endangered communities across America.
I will also continue to honor the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Just recently, Alabama lost two incredible young officers in Thomasville and Citronelle. I hope you will join me in praying for the families of Dallas Hinton and Dylan Chase Owen, along with all the other families mourning loved ones across our country. As John 15:13 says, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."
The men and women of law enforcement and their families have never stopped serving the American people, even when they have to make the ultimate sacrifice. I will never stop standing with them.
