At Christmas, Americans across this great nation slow down just a little. We gather with our families, we bow our heads in prayer, and we remember what truly matters.

Scripture tells us, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” That promise will never fade. It lives in the hearts of believers and continues to shape our homes, our communities, and our nation.

Here in Alabama, faith is not confined to a single day or place – it is woven into everyday life. It is found in churches filled with prayer, in families teaching their children right from wrong, and in neighbors caring for one another in times of need. These values – love, humility, sacrifice, and service – have long been the foundation on which we build everything.

The story of Christmas reminds us that God often works through the humble and the faithful. A child born in a manger brought salvation to the world, proving that even in the darkest moments, God’s light cannot be overcome. That truth gives us confidence – not in ourselves or in government, but in the Lord who guides our steps. As Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

I am grateful to the Alabamians who embody this spirit daily. Our service members and veterans, first responders, farmers, small business owners, and all who give of themselves without seeking recognition are examples of the kind of selfless servants we are called to be in Scripture.

Christmas is also a time to remember those who are hurting – families grieving loss, parents carrying worry, and those spending the holidays alone. In the last few weeks, we have witnessed heartbreaking violence in Rhode Island, Australia, and Syria. The message of Christmas assures that God sent his Son to be near to the brokenhearted and that hope is never out of reach when we put our faith in Him.

As we celebrate this holy season, we are called not just to reflect, but to renew. This is a season to recommit ourselves to our faith, to love of our neighbor, and to the values that unite us as Alabamians and as Americans. If we do, I am confident that the days ahead will be brighter than those behind us.

In a time that often feels chaotic and uncertain, we remember that in a quiet stable, under a starlit sky, God brought hope into the world. That hope still shines today, steady and unchanging, guiding each of us through a world that often seems broken and dark.

May this Christmas bring peace to your home, strength to your heart, and renewed hope for the year ahead.

Merry Christmas and may God continue to bless you and your families.
