For too long, America’s producers have been operating under uncertainty. The last full farm bill was passed in 2018, and since then producers have faced rising input costs, global competition, natural disasters, and burdensome regulations. That’s why I’m proud the House Agriculture Committee has advanced the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, or Farm Bill 2.0.

This legislation is about restoring certainty for the men and women who feed and fuel our nation.

Producers in Alabama and across the country need reliable risk-management tools and access to credit so they can keep producing the safest, most affordable food supply in the world. The bill strengthens crop insurance and commodity support programs so producers can better withstand unpredictable markets and weather disasters. It also expands access to farm credit and modernizes lending programs to help young and beginning producers get started and stay in agriculture.

Just as important, this legislation invests in rural America. From expanding rural development financing to strengthening conservation programs that help producers steward their land, the bill recognizes that strong rural communities are essential to our nation’s economic and food security.

The farm bill also tackles emerging challenges facing American agriculture - from rising input costs and supply chain disruptions to growing global competition from countries like China. It promotes precision agriculture and innovation that helps producers lower costs while improving productivity. It restores regulatory certainty in interstate agriculture markets and ensures our producers remain competitive globally.

In Congress, I’ve worked to make sure Alabama producers have a seat at the table – whether that’s advocating for our peanut growers, pushing for strong disaster programs, or fighting for policies that protect family farms from excessive regulation.

Passing this bill out of committee is an important step, but our work isn’t finished. Producers don’t have the luxury of waiting while Washington drags its feet. They’re planting crops, raising livestock, and providing food for families across the nation.

When American agriculture is strong, rural communities thrive.

Congress must get Farm Bill 2.0 across the finish line, and I look forward to working with Chairman Glenn Thompson to assist its passage in the House of Representatives.

Congressman Barry Moore is the U.S. Representative for AL-01 and lives in Enterprise, Alabama with his family. He serves on the House Judiciary Committee and House Agriculture Committee in Congress.
