U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) recently spoke to the Mobile Chamber of Commerce’s Forum Alabama about the city's growth and needs.
Bradley Byrne, president and CEO of the Mobile Chamber, said Moore continued to advocate for more federal funds for the Interstate 10 Bridge and Mobile Bayway projects.
“I remember him saying if we painted it in gold and named it after President Donald Trump, we might get more money,” Byrne said. "Of course, he was joking."
Byrne said the project, which has been planned for 30 years, is the most important in the area. While a change in administration could slow the process down, he hopes the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) grant application is accepted to ensure 49% of the project will be covered.
Last year, Moore announced a $550 million investment from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for the project. The Bridge Investment Program award is one of the largest federal grants ever received for a project in Alabama.
