Wednesday, on Mobile radio's FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show," U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) argued Republicans could potentially retain their majorities in both the House of Representatives and Senate if conservative voters prioritize continued border security at the ballot box.
"I feel like we can hold the majorities. Certainly hold the majority in the House," contended Palmer. "The fundamentals still favor Republicans. One of the biggest reasons we held the majority and President Trump won the election in '24 was border security."
The legislator contrasted the Republican Party's approach to improving security at the border with that of Democrats.
"You've got a Democratic Party that is absolutely committed to open borders. They've been recorded in what they thought were private meetings, admitting this," said Palmer. "This is the party that wanted to defund the police. Now they want to defund Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They want to defund the Border Patrol."
He added, "I think the American public, if we do our job on the messaging side, they'll be reminded of that, and they'll have to make a choice. Do they want open borders? Do they want the chaos that is created, or do they want secure borders and secure communities?"
Palmer's claim of increased border security under the Trump Administration is backed by statistics released from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. According to the agency, in 2025, year-over-year border crossings dropped by 93%, while nationwide U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions per month reached 10,000 during the same period.
