As left-wing and college Democrat groups continue criticizing President Donald Trump's planned commencement speech at the University of Alabama this year, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) said the majority of Alabamians were "proud" to have Trump take the time to visit the Yellowhammer State.

On a Thursday appearance on WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," Strong said the corporate media overemphasized the negativity surrounding Trump's visit and that his supporters far outnumbered any opposition.

"I think it's impressive for the president to make time available to be there," Strong said. "And a lot of times, Dale, you know how I'll use the word journalism in Alabama, they go get three people that said that they don't want to be there. And for every three people that don't want him to be there, there's 5,000 that's proud that the president of the United States, the leader of the free world, is coming to the state of Alabama. And I welcome him, and I'll be greeting him, and I'll be there with him in Tuscaloosa."

Many of those criticizing the college for allowing Trump to speak referenced Alireza Doroudi, an Alabama doctoral student detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for national security reasons.

Strong said the Trump administration could better explain the process behind detaining Doroudi and other foreign national students, but he is fully on board with removing anyone who puts Americans at risk.

"The thing is, anybody that's a threat to society or a threat that wants to come to America to be educated, and there's any question, remove them, find out the details. But I do think that a better job of communication might go a long way," he said.

"But then I always take it tongue in cheek. The Democratic Party of the University of Alabama, what they're upset about is they've lost every major office in the state of Alabama, from governor to Supreme Court. They've lost the courthouses throughout the state of Alabama. And that's exactly what the protesters that you see protesting throughout the country. It's the same thing here. They're protesting because they've lost every major race. Their candidates are sub-par, and this continues to happen."
