Following the passage of a continuing resolution in the U.S. Senate to help reopen the goverment, Democrats within the U.S. House of Representatives are condemning the progress and denouncing fellow liberals in the upper chamber who voted for the legislation.

Among the opposition is U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham).

In a video message published on X on Sunday evening, the lawmaker said she doesn't trust that Republicans will allow negotiations on health care once the government is reopened, as they have stated.

"I've been clear from the very beginning that I will not support a budget that raises health care costs for millions of Americans," Sewell began. "This so-called deal is not a deal, in my opinion, it's an empty promise from the Republicans to help solve a health care crisis that they caused."

According to Sewell, the continuous resolution now being sent to the House lacks a key provision.

"It does nothing to extend ACA tax credits that help my constituents afford health care," she said. "To me, it is nothing more than an empty promise. That's why I will be voting no when it comes up for a vote in the House."

Sewell expressed disagreement with the eight Senate Democrats who voted with conservatives, arguing that Republicans are likely lying about the agreed-upon terms to end the shutdown.

"Some of my Democratic colleagues in the Senate think that Republicans are open to negotiating on health care once the government reopens," she outlined. "I don't trust it. I don't trust them. But here's what I do know, if Republicans don't hold up to their end of the bargain, they will be responsible for skyrocketing health care premiums and costs for millions of Americans."

"We have to hold them accountable," Sewell added.
