The Eastern Shore Republican Women (ESRW) hosted a candidate forum during its first luncheon of the year last week. However, of the five U.S. Senate candidates, only two participated: Jared Hudson and Morgan Murphy.
Three of the other candidates, Steve Marshall, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and Rodney Walker shared videos about their campaigns.
Marshall planned to attend the event, but was delayed by air travel. Marshall said as Alabama's Attorney General, he has already learned how to fight for the people by battling the opioid crisis, pushing back against the Biden administration and federal overreach and fighting radical gender ideology.
"In those battles and in those fights, I've been able to win, and I want to be able to do that for you in the United States Senate," said Marshall.
Marshall's priorities are reducing the federal government's burden on constituents' pocketbooks, advocating for farmers, standing up for veterans and continuing to be a voice for law enforcement.
Moore was in session and Congress and was unable to attend. He said he wants to continue the America First agenda in the U.S. Senate. He cited his record as evidence that he is one of the most conservative lawmakers in Washington.
"We will be ready to go day one with experience, relationships. I can call the president," said Moore. "He takes my calls, so not only relationships at the White House and the ability to do things for Alabama through the executive branch and the legislative branch, but also I have a record."
Moore shared his liberty scores and said he will continue to score high for conservative values.
Walker said he was unable to attend the luncheon due to a prior commitment. He discussed his family and business ventures.
"There are a lot of issues that are concerning the state of Alabama," Walker said. "I am not a career politician. I'm a businessman. I am an oil man. And I am a land man."
Walker said his priorities are rural healthcare, widening Interstate 65, agriculture, and food supply protection.
The Republican primary election will be held on May 19, with the primary runoff election scheduled for June 16. The general election will take place on November 3.
