With U.S. Space Command's move to Redstone Arsenal approaching, the agency is now offering "significant" bonuses for civilian employees who relocate to the base in Huntsville.

According to SPACECOM leadership, the bonuses will be paid out over several years, with recipients' moving costs being covered by the agency.

"We are trying to do everything we can to incentivize our workforce," said Gen. Stephen N. Whiting, Commander of U.S. Space Command, at a recent warfare symposium. "I've said to our civilian workforce, I want to make this decision as difficult as it can be for them because we're putting our money where our mouth is that we need their expertise to sustain our mission."

Whiting also said Space Command will soon begin advertising in Huntsville to attract potential employees.

"We'll be hiring new people there who won't come to Colorado Springs and then move as their functions begin to transfer. We're hopeful that these incentives will help us to get a much bigger percentage of the workforce to move than historically," added Whiting.

President Donald Trump announced in September 2025 that U.S. Space Command was officially coming to Huntsville. The move followed years of contentious disagreements among lawmakers as to where the agency's headquarters would be located.
