The U.S. Navy Band is touring the United States to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The tour comes to Alabama on Thursday, March 20.

They play at Satsuma High School in Mobile County. The performance is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. It is in the school's main gymnasium.

The performance is free, but tickets are required. They can be purchased here.

The U.S. Navy Band has been the official music organization of the U.S. Navy since 1925. It was established when Calvin Coolidge was President of the United States. They perform at presidential inaugurations, arrivals of heads of state, state funerals, state dinners, other national events, national tours and Satsuma High School..

The band plays a variety of musical genres, including patriotic, classical, jazz, pop, and country, and it ruffles and flourishes.

The band members consist of 172 enlisted band members and four officers.

In addition to the Satsuma High performance, the U.S. Navy Band has performed for a number of historical occasions:

  • 1927 for aviator Charles Lindbergh
  • 1929 for explorer Admiral Richard E. Byrd
  • 1962 for astronaut John Glenn
  • 1963 for funeral parade and funeral for President John F. Kennedy
  • 1981 for return of the U.S. hostages from Iran
  • 2002 for Beam of Hope remembrance ceremony

Through ceremonies, national and regional tours, public concerts, and recordings, the U.S. Navy Band inspires patriotism, elevates esprit de corps, enhances Navy awareness and public relations, supports recruiting and retention efforts, preserves the Nation’s musical heritage, and projects a positive image at home and abroad.
