A left-wing professor is being lauded by the University of Alabama Law School after her anti-Trump book recently made the New York Times and Amazon best-seller lists.

"Giving Up Is Unforgivable: A Manual for Keeping a Democracy," by Joyce Vance, a regular on left-wing cable news channel MS NOW (formerly MSNBC), was featured on the school's website and social media pages. Her publisher described the book as "the birth of a countermovement to Project 2025, a rallying cry for citizen engagement to combat the second Trump administration and save American democracy."

The book, released last month, details what Vance views as an attack on democracy by Trump and officials in his administration, praising the George Soros-organized "No Kings" protests that took place over the summer.

"In its first few weeks, the new administration spewed out anti-democratic moves with overwhelming force and velocity," Vance explains in the introduction to her book.

"The cavalier disregard for American norms and the abandon with which the new administration acted felt like a bad nightmare we couldn't wake up from."

In the book's first chapter, Vance uses the familiar boiling frog analogy to explain how some Americans were spurred to act against Trump.

"As they worked through the shock, some Americans finally realized that leaving the pot was their only course of action. They began to assemble and protest. As Trump tried to rewrite the Constitution (birthright citizenship), end legal challenges to his executive orders (attacking law firms), use DOGE to target federal agencies, disrupt and destroy foreign aid that helped maintain America's relationships and standing in the world, end efforts on climate change, gut universities and colleges, and put a stop to programs that ensured diversity, equity, and inclusion in the federal government, workplaces, and higher education, more people noticed the rising temperature," Vance wrote.

Vance is currently on a book tour. Last week, she spoke to NPR, telling the outlet about the 1989 mail-bomb that killed her father-in-law, Judge Robert S. Vance.

"The difference between that situation and what federal judges are facing today is that today the threat is coming from inside of the house. It's coming from the presidency," she said.

Vance's book closely mirrors her blog posts, which frequently attack Trump and his policies. The about page of the site says, "We deserve better than the craven leadership of the Trump administration and the self-serving antics of far too many of his followers, who care more about party and their own political futures, than country. The rule of law matters. We've got work to do."

Vance served as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama from 2009 to 2017 after being nominated by former President Barack Obama.
